Spring 2026 - Celebrating Staff Promotions!

SCDHC is thrilled to announce the promotions of HUD housing counselor Tarik Gay and Financial Opportunity Center® (FOC) coach Michael Giancaspro! Tarik is now the Housing Program Manager, and Michael is the FOC Team Lead. They will continue coaching and counseling, but assume additional responsibilities within their respective programs. These promotions are a testament to the dedication and standard of excellence that Tarik and Mike bring to SCDHC every day. We are so excited to welcome them to the leadership team! Get to know Tarik and Mike and learn more about their promotions in their own words:

Tarik Gay: Housing Program Manager

“My time at SCDHC has been incredibly rewarding. I’m thankful for the opportunity to develop professionally while collaborating with a supportive team that truly values community betterment and public collaboration.”

How do you feel about the promotion?

“I am extremely grateful for the promotion and excited to take on new responsibilities. I look forward to contributing even more to our mission and supporting my colleagues in impactful ways.”

What is your favorite aspect of your work?

“I especially enjoy networking and meeting industry professionals to learn from their insights and organizational processes. I also love speaking to audiences and conducting Homebuyer Education Workshops, as these opportunities allow me to contribute to connecting with and empowering the community.”

What are some of your personal interests?

“I love exploring local food spots throughout Virginia, and visiting scenic places such as Old Town Petersburg, Coloniam Williamsburg, and Crozet’s King Family Vineyard.”

Michael Giancaspro: FOC Team Lead

“I began at SCDHC in the early days of the pandemic, and so far it has been an incredible opportunity. I have had the chance to take on so many responsibilities and projects, from Spanish translation and interpretation, to grant writing, teaching, and financial coaching. This keeps things fresh, as every day presents new challenges.”

How do you feel about the promotion?

“I’m looking forward to further developing leadership skills. I have had the opportunity to lead in other areas, such as through music and volunteer work, so I am excited to bring this to SCDHC.”

What is your favorite aspect of your work?

“My favorite aspect of SCDHC has to be getting to collaborate with so many passionate coworkers who are all dedicated to the company’s mission. Being such a small non-profit, everyone knows everyone, and we are free to work and solve problems together, resulting in our high overall performance year after year.”

What are some of your personal interests?

“My hobbies include playing bass, pondering music theory, playing ultimate frisbee, and herping (look it up!).”
