Our HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Center is a part of our Homeownership program. Our areas of expertise include pre-purchase, Down Payment Assistance and foreclosure prevention.

Downpayment Assistance —

Buying a house is an exciting step towards financial stability; best of all, we’re here to help you! We start our assistance process by having potential clients ask themselves a few questions.

Are you ready to buy your first home?


Two

Is your credit score above 640?


Three

Do you have at least $2,000 in savings?


Four

Is your annual income at least $40,000?

 

We offer down payment assistance for Henrico County and the City of Richmond.

The system will notify one of our Counselors; Our counselors will then review your application and contact you to discuss your situation and set a plan of action and or appointment. Please allow up to 7 business days for us to process your application.

 

— Step three

Use the button to the right to request a credit report. You must be enrolled in one of our counseling programs to request a credit report. After SCDHC has received payment, you will receive confirmation from a counselor.

Please note, fees for credit reports are non-refundable.

 
 

Virginia Housing’s SPARC Program —

Through SPARC, Virginia Housing’s approved lenders can provide a 1% mortgage interest rate reduction to eligible first-time homebuyers, increasing their purchasing power and potentially saving them thousands of dollars over the life of the loan.

Foreclosure Prevention —

Are you having problems paying your mortgage? Are you facing foreclosure? There are options and we may be able to help. Our HUD approved Foreclosure Intervention counselors can assess your situation and make recommendations based on current government or lender programs. Together, you and your counselor can draft up a process that suits your current financial situation.

VIDA Match Program —

The Virginia Individual Development Accounts (VIDA) program helps qualified individuals save for a down payment on a home. Eligible participants receive training, support and match funding on their savings. The current match rate is $8 for every $1 the participant saves, up to $4,000 in match.

Are you ready to purchase a home within 6 to 24 months?

Was your net worth less than $10,000 at the end of last year?

Do you earn 80% or less of the area median income?
