Spring 2026 - Jim's Handy Home Hints
HVAC Spring Clean Up
It’s time to start thinking about spring and those warmer days ahead when we may need to turn on our A/C systems. The question is: is your system ready after sitting through a long, hard winter? Here are some spring clean-up tips for your HVAC system!
Replace or clean air filters.
Filters collect dust, pollen, and pet dander all winter long.
Replacing filters every 60-90 days improves airflow and indoor air quality.
Schedule a professional HVAC inspection. The technician will perform the following:
Check refrigerant levels
Inspect electrical connections
Lubricate moving parts
Verify thermostat calibration
Check for duct leakage
Do the following to prevent breakdowns and keep your HVAC system working efficiently:
Clean around the outdoor HVAC unit
Remove leaves, branches, and debris
Gently rinse coils with a water hose
Maintain two feet of clearance around the unit for proper airflow
