Spring 2026 - City of Richmond Press Conference

The City of Richmond has proposed to allocate more than $40 million towards affordable housing, anti-displacement strategies, and safety improvements in fiscal year 2027. SCDHC's leadership attended the press conference where Mayor Danny Avula emphasized the need to ensure that people of all income levels can access stable, affordable homes in safe neighborhoods. The city's FY27 budget proposal, released March 11th, indicates a renewal of $1 million in funding for the Eviction Diversion Program, administered by SCDHC. We are honored to continue serving Richmond City renters through this program, and look forward to collaborating with the city for another year on eviction diversion initiatives. Other housing highlights from the press conference and FY27 budget proposal include:

  • $11.7 million for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and $1.8 million in Affordable Housing Performance Grants

  • A "person-centered" approach to public housing redevelopment, including funding to support engagement, whole-family case management, and transition planning for the residents of Gilpin Court

  • $700,000 for Right to Counsel services

  • $1 million for the Family Crisis Fund

  • $7.4 million in tax relief for older adults and people living with disabilities
